All states should at least allow lane filtering if not splitting.

In most US states the cops beat you up if they catch you… or some hillbilly in a lifted truck gets jealous and opens his door on you. Land of the free baby! Ride on!

Thankfully, we got a different result this time. Much more support due to behind the scenes education of the legislature.

The local reporting strongly supports this assessment, almost no mention of AMA participation or quotes in the media, quite the opposite for ABATE.

I hope they also adopt a good public awareness program, because aggressive driving seems to be in Phoenix drivers’ DNA. Looking forward to not roasting in traffic next summer!

But it's been known to happen. 👌😎]]> https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/002/308/209/a5f.jpg EDIT: Maybe Flori-duh will adopt the same law ? Not that it matters much, people here filter one way or another and most drivers are OK with it, some even move a bit out of your way for you to filter.
😲 UNREAL, RIGHT ! ? But it’s been known to happen. 👌😎

You lane filter not lane split. I do not mean to be extra picky but that seemed to be the verbiage that triggered negative view of lane filtering. Several groups spent several days to get the media ro change their messaging to properly reflect what got passed and soon will be legal to do in Arizona. No offense intended.

To me it’s all semantics. You got my point. If someone who doesn’t ride doesn’t get it, chances are they won’t care what you call it. And neither will I. No offense to you, I know you’re making a valid point here, but in my experience, people who argue semantics are usually hanging on to a straw argument and come across a bit pathetic.

Also racist people will do it to you if you have an accent. Again, nothing else to hang on to but a slight mispronunciation. Pretty pathetic stuff.

That happened in AZ the last time it made it to the gov’s desk.

I’m not convinced that lane-splitting is necessary, but being able to filter through stopped city traffic will be quite useful.

Hopefully the word will get out sufficiently by the time the law takes effect for the public to recognize this as a good thing. Also hopefully, motorcyclists will behave responsibly so as to not annoy the driving public.

It only serves to further add salt in the wound for Oregonians wherein we had bipartisan and bicameral support, only to have it vetoed by the governor.

I hope more states continue this trend.

Even a slight fender bump can cost a fortune. And I’ve seen the result of the injuries incurred by a passenger on a sport bike that was rear ended. It’s not pretty either. For this reason alone, I don’t give a rat’s booty what the law says wherever I’m at. I split at least 3 or 4 cars when coming to a complete stop in traffic. Common sense and safety over rule laws in my world. Btw, the FAA agrees with my rational, that’s how I learned it. Here’s the FAR:

In an emergency requiring immediate action, the pilot-in-command may deviate from any rule in 14 CFR Part 91, Subpart A, General, and Subpart B, Flight Rules, to the extent required to meet that emergency.

FWIW, @lancekoliver:disqus replied to my comment about this elsewhere that the AMA put its name in support of this bill, however there appears to be ambiguity to whether or not they financially assisted with this bill. A commenter from AZ claimed that AZ ABATE was the biggest proponent of the bill.

Previously, the only way I would ever forcibly get an AMA membership would be to join my regional racing association. If the AMA continues to support bills like this, then I would strongly consider an AMA membership outside of racing. Otherwise their anti-helmet and anti-ethanol crusade does nothing for motorcyclist outside of the west coast like myself.
