I really feel like you can have the best of both worlds with the Pikes Peak, I can’t justify (personally) spending the big bucks right when I have two perfectly functional and enjoyable bikes. Bless those who have the cash though. The Multi V4 S Sport with the Akra exhaust is a very compelling second choice.
]]>This is exactly my issue. I really want the 17″ for sportier tires, but the price tag is huge.
My idea bike would be a StreetFighter GT or SuperSport V4, but the Multistrada Pikes Peak is sort of all that fills the gap right now. A 150HP comfy sport bike with decent hard bags would be perfect.
I’ll definitely track day it if I get it, but since it isn’t my race bike, I doubt I’ll be pushing it hard enough to benefit from the Ohlins.
]]>I’d buy a SuperSport V4 today. I don’t even need to see the price tag.
]]>How do you find the wider bars on the Multistrada on track? I think I’ll love the Pikes Peak, but the bar width will probably take some getting used to.

]]>I’ve got a race bike, and my S1000RR has been my touring bike 😂
I’m debating selling the S1000RR and either getting a V4 Pikes Peak as my one street bike option, or going the lesser Multi V4 or KTM 1290 SAS for touring and an RS660 or 890 Duke for shorter days.
]]>I’d buy a SuperSport V4 today. I don’t even need to see the price tag.
]]>Technicnally, the Supersport 950 IS the Supersport V2, in the same way that the Multi 950 was re-branded to the Multi V2.
What we ALL want is a Supersport V4 – the Supersport chassis, ergos and fairing, with the V4 Grantourismo from the Multi. I wouldn’t complain if it looked identical to the Supersport 950 either.
]]>I have a track-ready S1000RR so you answered my question! The “lesser” V4 Multi will fulfill my commute/touring use case just fine then. Though my ’15 1200S Touring already does those things very well.
]]>I’m with you, Ryan. Streetfighter GT FTW!
]]>Well, in the US market it’s pretty moot, since we won’t get the KTM SDGT. I’m not sure Ducati is really looking at KTM and seeing competition either.
]]>I have someone at Ducati looking into this, but I’m not sure when they’ll get back to me. My guess is that the bike would freak out on the electronics. You can calibrate for tires, but the jump from 17″ to 19″ is too big for that to work.
]]>I think that’s unlikely with the naming rights and all that.
]]>Yeah, that’s a tough one. Totally would come down to how much luggage/touring I want to do. The 60 lbs weight difference could be a factor too.
I think I would enjoy the Pikes Peak on the track more, just because I could have some actual wind protection. The SF is super fast, but it’s sorted wasted above 130 mph or so because of the wind blast.
]]>If Ducati had a hard bag option for the Streetfighter V4, I would be a happy man. The Pikes Peak fills that Super Duke GT role very well, but the price point is tough because of all the “special edition” positioning they’re doing with it. Having a “cheaper” sport-touring option with the V4 engine is still needed, IMHO.
]]>“Character”…. in marketing speak.
Females seem to dig ‘bad boys’ (for fun) rather than reliable and dependable ones (for paying the bills)…. must be a left over monkey brain trait.
“Smooth” and “exciting” are not on the same axis, in my mind. When you twist the throttle on the V4, exciting things certainly happen, but the torque is very linear. My issue with the 1200 was always how rough the motor was below say 30mph. The 1260 sorta fixed that, but the V4 doesn’t definitely doesn’t have that issue.
]]>The 19″ is very good on the road. 95% of riders will be fine with that. The 17″ gives a little more feedback, and feels more confident in the turns…and then you have a much sportier choice of tires as well. I think my only gripe is that you don’t get that option until $30k…which makes this generation very different from the previous Multistradas.
]]>I think it depends on what you want to do with it. Ducati has really pushed the Pikes Peak to be more track-ready, which makes the 17’s a must-have. It’s interesting that trade-off being made against more touring-oriented features.
]]>The whole S1000 platform suffers from vibration issues.
]]>Or a SuperSport V2/ V4?
]]>Perhaps your vision could morph into reality since the new Ducati DesertX is now the true off-roader. It kinda’ makes tall, beaky MTS street bikes superfluous. If you focus on dirt, the DesertX. If you focus on road sport-touring, then the bike you envision could be a dream come true. I’d hoped a “SuperSport V2” with MTS hard bags might emerge, but the SFV2 killed that.
